The inspiration behind Haviland Events started long before my first client. Let me start off by saying that I grew up in the south – so if there is one thing I know, it's hospitality. My mom is the epitome of a “hostess with the mostess”, and where I got my love (alright, obsession) for events and celebrations. She believes there is nothing too small to celebrate, that you should always have pretty cocktail napkins on hand in case of surprise visitors, and that wedding china* and silver should be used every single day. She is also the person who took me to an antique store for the first time, where I instantly fell in love with all of the heritage that filled the rooms.
My mother’s influence, coupled with a year spent living in Italy, helped shape my belief that the most important aspects of celebrations and weddings are heart, heritage, and hospitality:
Heart: Whether it is your love for the person you are about to marry, love for a newborn child, or love for your closest friends, heart is the reason we host events!
Heritage: Traditions and family history are what makes each of us unique, and they have the power to make life, and your event, truly special! My wedding cake was a replica of my grandparents’ and when my husband, Luke, and I stood there cutting the cake, I thought of them in that moment beginning a marriage that lasted more than 50 years.
Hospitality: Making your guests feel welcome and comfortable throughout the entire celebration is what will leave a lasting impression, and keep them talking about your event for years to come.
*I may have also inherited her passion for collecting vintage plates and glasses, much to my husband’s dismay...
