Classic Richmond Wedding at John Marshall Ballrooms

I first had the pleasure of meeting Sally in 2016 when I was back home in Richmond for Christmas. Her best friend, Taylor, grew up next door to me and asked if I would meet Sally to talk through the process of starting to plan a wedding - one of my absolute favorite things to do with friends!  By the end of our conversation, Sally’s infectiously cheery personality had me dying to work with her, so when she asked if she could hire me I was so excited!  And the icing on the cake… At the time, she and her fiancé, Kyle, lived just outside of Chicago. making it a match made in planner heaven.

To create an event that reflected their relationship and incorporated their families (who are amazing, by the way), Sally and Kyle included a few really unique touches.  Sally added a pin that belonged to her grandmother which said “I love a VT engineer” because Sally’s late grandfather was a Virginia Tech engineer and so is Kyle!  They also brought Kyle’s love of mountains and outdoors into the gorgeous John Marshall Ballrooms by having The Lighting Professors create a starry night on the ceiling.  Talk about romantic.

My favorite pictures - by the wonderful Amanda Manupella - are a few that share the emotions of the day: the father/daughter and mother/son dances, and Kyle and Sally’s reaction to the toasts.  They are so genuine and Amanda captured the feeling in the room so incredibly well.

Floral-Focused Country Club Wedding

Samantha and Mike’s Royal Melbourne wedding was one of the most authentic and heartfelt weddings I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of.  Samantha has great style and is a self-proclaimed perfectionist, so it was no surprise to me that she made all her own signage, hand stamped each place card, and thought of special details to bring to the hotel for photos while getting ready.

The floral arrangements that Samantha and Mike chose created beautiful backdrops for their day by adding asymmetrical detail to the ceremony chuppah, a lush runner to the head table, and height to the guest tables.  Gold chargers, chairs, and a touch of candlelighting, completed the romantic feel.

For the ceremony, Jewish and Catholic wedding traditions were woven together perfectly by a rabbi and priest duo.  It was so unique and one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen.   Most impressively, the chuppah stayed in place during 35 mph gusts of wind (!) while they signed the Ketubah, exchanged vows, heard readings from the bible, and broke the glass - making for the coolest picture, I must add.  Even the couple’s dog, Parker, was a part of the ceremony acting as the ring bearer.

From the first look with Samantha’s dad, to the sweet moments before they walked down the aisle, to the [happy] tear-filled toast, their father/daughter bond was undeniable.  (I’m literally tearing up as I’m writing this.)

After fabulous toasts, father/daughter and mother/son dances, a delicious plated dinner and the cake cutting, guests were invited onto the dance floor with the hora and the party really began!

Heritage-filled Wedding at LondonHouse Chicago

Kate and Longe’s wedding this past May incorporated American and Congolese traditions to create an amazing, energetic celebration focused on the couple’s heritage.

Their ceremony at Park Community Church was a true reflection of their love for Christ and their guests, and they even served communion to each person in attendance.  One very special ceremony detail was a vintage handmade tapestry from the Congo which we used as an aisle runner - thanks to Meredith from Canary Lane for helping us find it.

The couple chose LondonHouse Chicago for their reception, which offered classical architecture, breathtaking views of Chicago (talk about memorable photos), and impeccable service. The team there was so wonderful to work with and I cannot wait for more weddings together.

For their first dance, Kate and Longe started with “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and then transitioned into the Congolese song “Kema Fumbe” - and everyone from Longe’s family joined them on the dance floor!  How fun is that, ya’ll?!  Everyone then sat down to a wonderful meal with American and Congolese influence weaved throughout, including Congolese beignets that were to die for.  After dinner, the whole bridal party changed into custom-made Congolese attire and reentered to another Congolese song to kick off the dance party!

Classic Wedding at Arlington Racetrack

Margo and Will were such a joy to work with on their Arlington Racetrack wedding.  From our first phone consultation to our final details double-date meeting we had a blast working together to add details that reflect their story.  Everything from the heirloom silver and crystal pieces used as centerpieces on all the guest tables, the subtle horse racing theme seen in the paper goods by Noteworthy Expressions and the Greek dance, everything had a meaning and tied back to how close they are with their wonderful families.  For the head table, Margo knew she wanted something to make the table pop and add a bit of fun to the room while still keeping it classic.  We decided to use delicate white-on-white china, a handmade leafy runner and of course, mint juleps to add to the horse racing theme.  After hilarious speeches, they cut the cake and danced the night away.  It was such a wonderful evening.  Cheers to the Olsons!

Simple Elegance Chicago Riverfront Wedding

The Kitchen Bistro in Chicago is a riverfront wedding venue that features a beautiful view, locally sourced food, and the most gracious staff you could ever want for your wedding.

At my clients' request, I won't be sharing their names or images in this post, but I promise you'll love this incredible mix of traditions.  It includes the groom’s classic American taste, the bride’s Lebanese heritage, and the funky, non-traditional personalities of both the bride and groom.

They had an intimate ceremony with 50 guests in The Kitchen's back room, where their closest friends and family members read pieces of poetry and excerpts from classic literature. The bride and groom shared vows they personally wrote (the bride speaking in Lebanese!) and then the newlyweds led their ceremony guests to the bar for a celebratory champagne toast.  The rest of the guests arrived in time for cocktail hour featuring a homemade beer brewed by the groom’s father.  How special is that?!  Everyone sat down for an amazing family style dinner and, between courses, listened to speeches in 5 different languages with beautiful violinists playing in the background.  Yes, the bride and groom understood every speech... After dinner the gelato bar opened along with the “party DJ” from Arlen Music. The bride and groom both shared dances with their parents and then danced the night away.

This wedding was so filled with their heritage and heart and I am so honored to have been a part of it!
